I like design against culture because they tell it how it is
(and one of the designers is my cousin)
Design against culture are to sydney based designers / buissness men that became disalusioned with the fashion industry after the recent economic collapse. They run an on-line shop and also a blog that tells the honest to god truth about how YOU can break into the fashion industry on any budget.
I recently chatted with designer Liam Farrow about his company and just what it takes to start a fashion line.
Q: What were the major issues that the buissness had to overcome?
A: In our attempt to build an interactive brand we found it difficult to engage users on website. The cost of doing has a fair bit of risk, so finding the funding for this was definitely a major issue. It took a little time but eventually found a solution to get our startup going, but we definitely learnt a lot whilst find this solution.
Q: What materials and equipment are needed to start a buissness?
A: Aside from running our online sector we have a fashion wholesale business. In order to run this we have offshore suppliers for our manufacturing but all the design work i do is on my mac using illustrator and photoshop.
Q: who are the main target?
A: Our main customers is currently young guys in the 18-25's. They love going to music festivals, hanging at the beach and generally having a good time. But still has an eye for fashionable garments and is interested in what is happening art design and fashion culture.
